Dear Race Day Participants,

Congratulations, you are signed up and ready to dash for a cure this Sunday, September 15th at the Wings of Karen 5k Bra Dash. We have had such a tremendous showing of support, both from the growing number of participants as well as our local businesses and corporate sponsors, enabling 100% of the proceeds to go directly to local breast cancer research.

 

Below, please find some information that will make your race day morning both rewarding and enjoyable.

 

1.     Pre-registration packet pick-up: or those of you who are already registered and would like to avoid any lines the morning of the race, race-day bags (with shirt, bib number and sponsors goodies) are available for pick-up. 

 

Registration is available at the packet pickup locations. $40 adults and $35 kids 12 and under. 

Registration is also available on the day of the race.  Look for the registration booth at the event.

2.     Create a team and fundraise!

It’s time to applaud yourselves...we have already raised $60,000 for life-saving breast cancer research. But don’t stop now; let your friends and family know you are dashing in pursuit of a cure by making your own custom fundraising page. Here is the link to get started today:

Every dollar counts in the fight against breast cancer. With 100% of your dollar reaching the cause, we are taking huge strides with the Bra Dash.

 

Fundraising is not required to join our dash, your registration is a donation and greatly appreciated, but if you take it a step further and raise $200 for Wings of Karen through your fundraising page, you will receive a $20 gift card courtesy of Sports Authority as thanks!

 

There is still time to encourage your friends and family to join your team as well. Pre-registration for the Bra Dash ends online September 12th at 10am. The Walking Company is offering a free pair of shoes to the first 40 team captains that have 10 or more on their team, all registered on our fundraising site (listed above). 3.     Schedule your mammogram at the Mammovan

We know it can be difficult to find the time to schedule an office exam, so we have made it convenient by bringing the Seattle Cancer Care Mammovan to you on race day. Contact Seattle Cancer Care Alliance to schedule your yearly mammograms at the Bra Dash.

 

4.     Parking will be limited at Lake Wilderness – please carpool where possible. Parking attendants will be on hand to direct you to available spots. We have also arranged for shuttle transportation (seattlepartylimo.com) to and from the race, originating from Lake Wilderness Elementary (24216 Witte Road SE). Departures from LWE will be 8:00, 8:15, 8:30, 8:45 and 9:00 Return times from Lake Wilderness Park are 10:30, 10:45, 11:00, and 11:15, 11:30 and 11:45.

Common Questions and Answers

 

Q.        Do I get a T-Shirt?

A.        Early Registration sign ups before 10:00 am on September 3rd gets a t-shirt.  We will have official bra dash shirts availabe during race day for $6 each at a limited supply.

 

Q.        Is there Wings of Karen merchandise for sale.

A.        There will be a booth set up to purchase Wings of Karen merchandise.  Look for the banner signs.

 

Q.        Can I walk?

A.        Yes you can.  There are just as many walkers as runners.  The course is designed to accommodate both.

 

Q.        What should I do with my donations that are not online (Checks, Cash). I want it to show up on my donation page.

A.        Go to your donation page and login to your account.  Click on the "Give Now" link and when the donation window comes up, it will have an option on the bottom (highlighed in yellow).  Click on the box and fill in the required information. Please bring your checks and cash at the event to the registration booth.

 

Q.        I’m already registered for the Bra Dash, how do I create or join a team and fundraise?

A.        Go to http://grouprev.com/wingsofkaren and either join an existing team, or create your own. 

 

Q.        Can I create a team or donate to a team without first being registered for the Bra Dash?

A.        You must first register for the Bra Dash at www.wingsofkaren.org before joining or creating a team. Anyone can donate to a team with or without registering for the Bra Dash.

 

Q.        Am I required to wear a bra over my race-day shirt?

A.        Of course not ... it’s a fun way to show your spirit for the cause but we will take you bra-less :))

 

Q.        What happens with all those bras?

A.        All undecorated bras will be donated to a fantastic organization - the Northwest Center,

a non-profit organization that expands the skills, independence and opportunities of children and adults with disabilities. www.nwcenter.org. Our decorated bras will be turned into art, donated and displayed at local hospitals in our area.

 

Q.        Should I ask my employer if they will match funds?

A.        Yes! We are a part of the Boeing Match program, don’t forget to submit your registration and donations to double your funds to Wings of Karen. Many other employers offer this same terrific benefit. Reference Wings of Karen Tax ID: 45-4577998

 

Q.        My children are registered for the Bra Dash, can I push my youngest in a stroller? Can I bring my pet to the Bra Dash?

A.        Sorry, for the safety of all participants along the route, there are No Strollers and No Pets allowed. Thank you for your understanding.
